You set the candle next to the rightmost loaf and eat some of the bread. It would have been tasty a few days ago, but now it's stale and a bit off. Not worth more effort unless you were far hungrier. You drink from the sink near the cutting-board to wash out the taste.
During your drink, you notice by the candlelight that the rightmost loaf looks hollow inside! You turn off the tap and carefully examine the loaf, to see a small hole in the bottom, in which a tattered paper page with writing on one side has been placed. It reads:

found your note - food, but where does it come from? tried breaking all the windows, and the front door, still can't leave. so long since i saw another person. one who wasn't _dead. attic's safe, at least for now. think i know how to get out, but need both of us to do it. definitely cursed. maybe we both need to be? don't look in the icebox. please still be alive. please help. -H

Leaving the note on the table, you pick up the candle and prepare to leave. You can either:

Return to the hallway, or
ignore the note's warning and examine the icebox.
